Chat room etiquette

Chat safely and politely make yourself understood and above all

BE A GOOD CHATTER !

Respect others:

Treat others as you would like to be treated.

Remember there is a person behind the message you are looking at.

Keep it legal:

Most chat rooms will not allow or tolerate illegal activity, this includes selling drugs or child pornography.

Don't flood or scroll:

It spoils the chat for other users, and you will find that users quickly add you to the ignore list.

Don't spam:

Most chat rooms will not allow people to type in URL's of webpages.

Be clear in your chat:

Make yourself understood !

Uphold the Code:

Please do your part to follow these guidelines and make chat a great place for all users.

Do Not Enter in to Cyber/sex chat in the main chat room:

It is offensive and other users may not wished be exposed to it.

Do not type all in CAPITAL LETTERS for emphasis:

IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE SHOUTING.

Be careful not to use rude or bad language online:

You can be removed from most chat rooms and in rooms with censorship it makes you look stupid.

Remember that the written word is hard to interpret:

Misunderstandings can and do happen - Just something is taken the wrong way !

When you speak to someone, that person can hear the tone of your voice, they can tell if you are laughing and making a joke.

They can tell if you are angry or upset.

If they can see you, they can take visual clues from your face and body to better understand your meaning.

All of this is lost in text, and sometimes responses can come across as nasty or rude, even when you did not intend them this way.

This is the reason some people use emoticons (smileys) it saves a lot of confusion.
